Bio

The 60-year-old American country music singer and songwriter gained popularity in the United States with his ability to integrate pop and rock elements into the Country Music genre. Garth Brooks has earned great success on the country music charts with multi-platinum recordings and record-breaking live shows. He has also managed to cross over into the pop music culture.

Being the only artist in music history to achieve this, Brooks has surpassed the Beatles’ record of releasing six Diamond Status albums by achieving nine Diamond Status albums in the United States throughout his career. Between 2001 and 2005, Brooks took a four-year “retirement” break from recording and performing, choosing to spend some more quality time with his family but still managed to sell millions of albums due to an exclusive distribution deal he made with Walmart and sporadically releasing new singles. In 2005 he released two compilation albums and started doing selected performances.

Since 1989, Garth Brooks has released 23 albums, which include thirteen studio albums, two live albums, three compilation albums, three Christmas albums, and four box sets with 77 singles. He has won two Grammy Awards, 17 American Music Awards, and the RIAA Award for best-selling solo albums artist of the century in the United States. He has also been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. In 2020 he received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song; he is the youngest person, at 58, to have won this award.

Having sold more than 170 million records, Brooks is one of the world’s best-selling music artists, with 156 million domestic units sold, surpassing Elvis Presley, and is only second to the Beatles in overall album sales. On January 21, 2021, Brooks performed Amazing Grace at the inauguration of Joe Biden, which he said was an opportunity “to serve” and “a statement of unity.”
